Hand Pumps for Petrol

When selecting a hand pump for petrol, it is important to remember that even in the Arctic, petrol is handled below its flashpoint, meaning that flammable vapour is present at all times during transfer.

Even in a well-ventilated environment risks still exist. In order to prevent ignition of petroleum vapour a suitably rated pump must be used. Additional precautions also apply including bonding of both pump and container.

Refer to both the fuel suppliers' safety data sheets and the Health and Safety executive's guidance document HSG51 (3^rd Edition) to ensure safe handling and that the installation is included within the scope of your DSEAR risk assessment.
